Procedures Performed in Conjunction With IVF  •Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
   A single sperm is inserted directly into a mature
   egg obtained from the ovary of a woman
   undergoing IVF, resulting in the fertilization and
   the development of an embryo.  •Assisted Embryo Hatching
   A technique for thinning the eggshell just before
   the embryo is placed back in the uterus following
   IVF.  •Blastocyst Transfer
   Embryos are transferred back to the uterus after
   they have been nurtured in the lab for an
   additional two to three days of growth, allowing
   them a greater chance of survival.  •Embryo Cryopreservation
   Allows the couple to preserve extra embryos not
   transferred for the possibility of future
   pregnancies.
